aerial - the move is aerial by nature & the majority of either partner's weight is above
chest height of their partner
- safety of the other dancers is essential, be considerate of others when executing moves.
- when performing aerials: please note as much as aerials are impressive to watch, modern jive is not only acrobatics, so couples performing a lot of aerials and little floor dancing will be marked lower. be careful with aerials (this includes entries & exits). although they are crowd pleasers if they are not performed cleanly & seemlessly they will be marked down. aerials are allowed at the appropriate levels as long as there is enough room to successfully complete the move without the possibility of injuring others.
To encourage a fair environment & ensure that all competitors are judged solely on their dancing skills, performance ability and repertoire of moves,
a team of judges from a variety of dance styles have been selected. Judges will take the following into consideration:
■ Transitions & flow of the dance
■ Connection/chemistry of the couple dancing together
■ Style, attitude & animation
■ Interpretation of the music including mood of the music
■ Use of lines, extensions
■ Range & variety of moves
■ Overall presentation
■ Innovation & creativity
■ At the beginner level emphasis is on having fun
the dance itself:
The dance must be clearly recognisable as Modern Jive.
- The dance MUST NOT more than borrow from any other dance style. This is of the discretion of the judges and no discussion will be entered into.
- Partners must not release handholds or break contact for more than 16 counts at any one time (and for 32 counts overall).
- This is a freestyle competition. Judges have been instructed to look for choreographed routines and couples will be marked down accordingly. Doubles, Cabaret & Teams are excluded.
dancers will be disqualified under the following circumstances:
- The dance violates any of the conditions detailed above.
- You interfere with another couple’s performance. Interference is to be determined at the judges’ discretion.
